The international conference of Nuclear Veterans was held in Kazakhstan

The Secretariat of the PCK at the KazNANS informs:

On June 7, with the support of the Association «Nuclear Society of Kazakhstan», the Stepnogorsk Mining and Chemical Combine and the assistance of members of the Pugwash Committee, the International conference of Nuclear Veterans dedicated to improving the public acceptance of nuclear energy by the population was held in a hybrid format in Nur-Sultan.

The conference was attended by members of the International Union of Public Associations «The International Union of Veterans of Nuclear Energy and Industry» (The IUVNEI):  representatives from Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Lithuania, and the IAEA. About 40 people participated in the conference.

At the opening of the conference, welcoming speeches were made by:

  • Deputy Chairman - Executive Secretary of the IUVNEI (Russian Federation) Lebedenko V.T., noted that «The Veteran Movement has experience, knowledge and authority in the scientific community, which allows it to be active in increasing the public acceptance of nuclear power in countries implementing or planning to implement projects in the field of peaceful atom»;
  • Chairman of the Board of the Association «NSK», member of the PCK Tazhibayeva I.L. emphasized that Kazakhstan has a unique experience in the construction and operation of nuclear power facilities, and is also the undisputed leader in uranium mining using the most advanced technologies. «The construction of nuclear power plants opens up new prospects in the development of not only nuclear energy, but also related fields of science and technology»;
  • General Director of the Stepnogorsk Mining and Chemical Combine LLP Chirchikbayev B.A. wished successful work to the participants of the conference.

In accordance with the Program of the International conference, presentations were made by:

  • Zhantikin T.M. (member of the PCK), General Director of Kazakhstan Nuclear Power Plants LLP on the topic: «Prospects for the development of nuclear power in Kazakhstan»;
  • Chichikin D.V. (First Deputy Director of the WANO Moscow Center (Russian Federation) on the topic: «Digital nuclear power: reliability, safety, human factor» (online);
  • Yanko Yanev (Representative of the Organization of Veterans of the IAEA, Bulgaria) on the topic: «On the stages of development of global energy that ensures the duration and quality of human life» (online);
  • Savelyev V.A., (Deputy Director General for Science of «Systems and Technologies» Company (Russian Federation) on the topic: «The role of nuclear energy in the development of modern society and in raising the standard of living of the population»;
  • Maksimovich D.M. (First Deputy Chairman of the IUVNEI (Belarus) on the topic: «The role of information technologies in increasing the public acceptance of nuclear power in the Republic of Belarus»;
  • Duisebaev B.O. (First Deputy Chairman of the IUVNEI, coordinator of the Kazakhstan Veteran Organization) on the topic: «New technologies and solutions for low-carbon energy and waste-free industry of the future based on the scientific potential of the nuclear industry»;
  • Kuznetsov N.M. (IT-specialist (Russian Federation) on the topic: «Training of professional personnel to ensure information and cybersecurity of nuclear power facilities and industry» (online).

 

Representatives of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and such leading nuclear industry enterprises as NAC Kazatomprom JSC, RSE NNC RK, and others took part online.

As a result of the conference, a resolution was adopted in which the participants recorded the need to continue the dialogue aimed at forming and maintaining public acceptance of nuclear energy by the population. The resolution separately noted the relevance of nuclear power development in Kazakhstan.
