Online Seminar "Nuclear Responsibility, Cooperation and Peaceful Atom"

On April 23, 2021, members of the Pugwash Committee of Kazakhstan, in accordance with paragraphs 3.1 and 4.2 of the PCK action plan, took part in the online seminar "Nuclear Responsibility, Cooperation and Peaceful Atom", organized by the Youth Branch of the Russian Pugwash Committee under the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The moderator of the event was the Chairman of the Youth Branch of the Russian Pugwash Committee under the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences Samoilovskaya N.A., co-moderator - member of the Youth Branch of the Russian Pugwash Committee of the Russian Academy of Sciences Pirnavskaya K.D. A member of the Youth Branch of the Russian Pugwash Committee, Y. Katsenko, and Chairman of the Youth Branch, member of the Pugwash Committee of Kazakhstan Miniyazov A.Zh. took part in the preparation of the event.

The event began with a report by M.A. Lebedev, Scientific Secretary of the Russian Pugwash Committee of the Russian Academy of Sciences on the current activities of the Pugwash Movement of Scientists.

As part of the seminar program, Ginzburg A.S., Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Pugwash Committee under the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Head of the Laboratory of Mathematical Ecology and Chief Researcher of the Institute of Atmospheric Physics named after A.M. Obukhova RAS, General Director of the Non-Commercial Non-State Foundation "Development and Environment", Murogov V.M., Doctor of Technical Sciences, Chairman of the International Union of Veterans of Nuclear Energy and Industry, Professor of the Department of General and Special Physics of NRNU MEPhI and Zhantikin T.M., Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Member of the Pugwash Committee of Kazakhstan, Member of the Nuclear Society of Kazakhstan, Director General of the Kazakhstan Nuclear Power Plants company and Batsanov S.B. member of the Russian Pugwash Committee of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Director of the Geneva headquarters and member of the Council of the Pugwash Movement of Scientists.

In his speech, member of the PKK and NSK Zhantikin T.M. shared with the audience about the development of nuclear energy and new generations of power plants. He emphasized the important role of nuclear energy in achieving the goals of carbon-free energy. Zhantikin T.M. spoke about the relationship of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons with the development of nuclear technologies in the world.

Members of two Pugwash committees and youth branches, as well as university students took part in the seminar as listeners. Kazakhstani scientists were invited to participate, in particular, members of the PKK and the Youth branch Tazhibaeva I.L., Saveliev S.R., Aliev S.A., Miniyazov A.Zh., Botov A.A., Rakhadilov B.K. The event was attended by 24 scientists from two countries. Following the results of the speakers' speeches, topical issues of nuclear safety and disarmament, the prospects for nuclear technologies and the development of nuclear energy were discussed. Participants highlighted the role of scientists in promoting the Pugwash Scientist Movement, the relationship between nuclear and environmental safety and new directions in nuclear energy, including the prospects for the use of "green energy".
