June 28, 2019 in Moscow in the conference hall of the Russian Pugwash Committee at the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, in an informal setting, a joint meeting of the Russian Pugwash Committee at the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Pugwash Committee of Kazakhstan at the Presidium of KazNANS was held.
Professor, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics Ginzburg A.S. - Deputy Chairman of the Russian Pugwash Committee at the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, headed the delegation of Russian participants, and Professor, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics Shkolnik V.S., Chairman of the Pugwash Committee at the Presidium of KazNANS, headed the delegation of Kazakhstan participants.
Scientific Secretary of the Russian Pugwash Committee at the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences-M.A. Lebedev made a presentation on the theme: "Pugwash movement and scientific diplomacy: the role and tasks of scientists."
Member of the Pugwash Committee of Kazakhstan, Ph.D. Zhantikin T.M., informed about the operation of the Bank of low-enriched uranium in Kazakhstan of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Osintsev A.Yu. The head of the security control and non-proliferation control department of the RSE NNC RK made a presentation on the “Complex of scientific, technical and engineering work to bring the former Semipalatinsk test site to a safe state”.
Member of the Russian Pugwash Committee at the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Chairman of the Youth Department - N. Samoylovskaya made a presentation on the topic: "Limitations of deadly autonomous systems with artificial intelligence: the main approaches."
The joint meeting ended with an exchange of views and discussion of the development of cooperation. As a result of the joint meeting, the parties expressed their willingness to share experiences and reached agreements on mutual cooperation for the implementation of joint tasks within the framework of the Pugwash movement of scientists, confirmed their wish to publish materials in periodicals of the Pugwash Committees and on joint preparations for the upcoming International Pugwash Conference. Discussed questions about the interaction of youth structures of the two national Pugwash committees.
