The Secretariat of the Pugwash Committee of Kazakhstan reports that the PROFATOMFEST 2026 forum, entitled “Youth — the Energy of Change: Digitalization, Leadership and Safe Work,” was held in a hybrid format on 24–25 September 2026 at the Arman Dala recreation camp near Almaty. The event was organized by the public association “Sectoral Trade Union of Nuclear Industry Workers” (OPRAP). It brought together young professionals from Kazakhstan’s nuclear industry, chairs of trade union organizations, technical inspectors and invited guests.
The forum opened with welcoming remarks by Kasymzhan Bayanzhanovich Madiyev, Chairman of OPRAP. Members of the Pugwash Committee of Kazakhstan took part in the event. Timur Miftakhovich Zhantikin, Candidate of Sciences in Physics and Mathematics and Deputy Chairman of the Atomic Energy Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan, delivered a presentation entitled “Prospects for the Development of Nuclear Energy in Kazakhstan” . Bauyrzhan Mukhtarkhanovich Ibrayev, Doctor of Sciences in Physics and Mathematics and Chairman of the VANEP Council of the Nuclear Society of Kazakhstan Association, presented “A Vision for the Development of the Uranium Industry up to 2050”.

The forum program was complemented by a two-day seminar for technical inspectors, during which participants combined learning, professional dialogue, an exchange of experience and team activities.

Particular attention was paid to safety, digitalization, labor rights and the role of trade unions in the changing world of work. A separate specialized seminar on occupational safety and health was held for technical inspectors.
On the second day, the educational program for young people and chairs of trade union organizations continued. D. Ryskaliyev, who holds a PhD in Law, delivered a lecture on legal support and innovation.
PROFATOMFEST 2026 became a platform where the experience of the older generation meets the energy and initiative of young people, and where safety, professional development and the protection of labor rights are addressed through both theory and practical interaction.
The forum’s core message remains unchanged: empowered young people are the future of the industry, and a strong trade union starts with active people who care.
Around 100 people took part in the event.
