The Secretariat of the Pugwash Committee of Kazakhstan under the Kazakh National Academy of Natural Sciences informs that on March 17–18, 2026, the “4th International Symposium on Highly Enriched Uranium Minimization” was held in Oslo, Norway.
A delegation of the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan took part in the event. The delegation was headed by a member of the Pugwash Committee of Kazakhstan under the KazNANS, PhD Arman Miniyazov, Deputy Director of the Institute of Atomic Energy of the NNC RK.

The symposium serves as a key global forum uniting governments, research institutions, and international organizations to address critical matters of nuclear safety and the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.
Within the framework of the symposium, the delegation of Kazakhstan presented key achievements in the conversion of research reactors from highly enriched uranium to low-enriched uranium fuel, as well as results of work on the handling and safe management of nuclear fuel.
Particular attention was paid to the successful implementation of projects aimed at reducing the use of highly enriched uranium fuel, which is in line with international commitments of Kazakhstan in the field of nuclear non-proliferation and strengthening global security.

Kazakhstan, with its considerable experience in nuclear technologies and nuclear safety, consistently pursues a policy of minimizing the use of highly enriched uranium. Participation of country in the symposium reaffirmed the high level of trust that the international community places in activities of Kazakhstan in this field.
The National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan continues to actively expand its international cooperation, including with the IAEA and partners from leading nations, to implement cutting-edge technologies and further strengthen nuclear safety.
