The PKK Secretariat reports that on October 4, 2024, the Nuclear Society of Kazakhstan held the IV Congress of Veterans of Atomic Science, Energy, and Industry (VASEI) in Almaty. The congress gathered more than 100 participants representing veteran organizations of enterprises in the uranium mining and nuclear industries of the Republic.
The participants were welcomed by the President of the Nuclear Society of Kazakhstan Association, Vladimir Sergeevich Shkolnik. Following him, speeches were delivered by the Chairman of VASEI, Bauyrzhan Mukhtarkhanovich Ibraev, the Chairman of Interregional public movement of veterans of nuclear energy and industry, Vladimir Alexandrovich Ognev, the General Director of Rosatom Nedra JSC, Vladimir Nikolaevich Verkhovets, the discoverer of uranium deposits, Khalil Battalovich Aubakirov (Volkov Geology JSC), and the Chairman of IUSAI, Kasymzhan Bayanzhanovich Madiev.
Colleagues from the State Corporation "Rosatom", Interregional public movement of veterans of nuclear energy and industry and JSC "Rosatom Nedra" also participated in the congress, engaging in a substantive discussion during the event about the current state and prospects of uranium mining in Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation. Additionally, members of the Pugwash Committee of Kazakhstan, including Professors T.Z. Akhmetov, M.K. Nauryzbayev, M.M. Burkitbayev, I.L. Tazhibayeva, and K.S. Tasibekov, as well as scientists from JSC "Institute of Chemical Research" and Al-Farabi KazNU, took part in the event.
The event concluded with a ceremonial awarding of veterans with honorary awards and commemorative souvenirs. Summing up and thanking all participants, Vladimir S. Shkolnik noted that veterans continue to be the backbone of enterprise teams, passing on their rich professional experience, accumulated knowledge, and instilling a love for the work in younger generations.
