According to the action plan of the Pugwash Committee of Kazakhstan, paragraph 1.4, in the framework of the initiative of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.A. Nazarbayev, who proclaimed 2019 the year of youth, September 4, 2019 at 14:00 at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of Kazakh National University after Al-Farabi, a meeting of students of this faculty with members of the Pugwash Committee of Kazakhstan was held. The meeting addressed issues of the efforts of the scientific community in the implementation of scientific and practical work on environmental safety.
The meeting was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of Kazakh National University after Al-Farabi, Ph.D., Tasibekov Khaidar Suleymanovich.
The audience addressed:
- Nauryzbaev Mikhail Kasymovich, member of the Pugwash Committee of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Technical Sciences, academician, professor, Laureate of the State Prize in the field of science and technology of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the topic: "Pugwash Movement of Scientists «PMS» - the International Movement of Scientists that arose in 1957, in accordance with the resolution of the Russell-Einstein Manifesto in Pugwash, Canada and the history of the creation of the Pugwash Committee of Kazakhstan (PCK) under the KazNANS Presidium in 2017, the tasks and work plans of the Committee and encouraged young scientists to become active participants in the Youth Branch of the Pugwash Committee of Kazakhstan, which is created this year under the PCK.
- Kenesov Bolat Nurlanovich, Ph.D., professor, director of the Center for Physical and Chemical Research and Analysis Methods (CPCRAM), topic of the report: "Environmental problems of Almaty";
- Makarova Varvara Aleksandrovna, Head of the Laboratory of Environmental Engineering at the Center for Comprehensive Environmental Research of the RSE Institute of Nuclear Physics, report topic: “Activities of the RSE“ Institute of Nuclear Physics ”in the field of radioecology”;
- Aliyev Seit Abeuhanovich - director of the Information Center for Atomic Energy of the Nuclear Society of Kazakhstan, senior lecturer of the Department of Ecology of KazATU after Saken Seifullin, who summed up the meeting.
Participants of the seminar took an active part in the discussion of the reports, students together with scientists-experts offered their vision to address issues in the implementation of scientific and practical work to ensure environmental safety.
On the second day the participants visited The Institute of Nuclear Physics (Alatau village) – the leading scientific organization of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of nuclear and solid-state physics, radioecological research, nuclear and radiation technologies. The students had a unique opportunity to get acquainted with some of the major objects from the facilities of scientific-technical base if INP (nuclear reactor VVR-K, isochronous cyclotron U-150M, electrostatic accelerator UKP-2-1, industrial electron accelerator ELV-4, research laboratories and scientific centers with modern analytical and test equipment).
