Management School for Nuclear Energy Specialists from Member States of the IAEA

The Secretariat of the Pugwash Committee of Kazakhstan (PCK) reports that from October 23 to November 3, 2023, Mr. Miniyazov A.Zh., the head of the laboratory at the RSE NNC RK, a member of the PCK, and the leader of the Youth branch of the Committee, participated in the Nuclear Energy Management School for young specialists and mid-level managers from the nuclear industry of member states. This event was organized by the IAEA in collaboration with the Nuclear Industry College of China in Beijing.

The Nuclear Industry College is a leading specialized educational center in the field of the nuclear industry in China. It provides professional courses and training in a wide range of topics related to the nuclear industry.

The NEM School is held annually with the primary goal of training participants in leadership and managerial competencies for the successful implementation of the national nuclear energy program. Drawing on the broad range of competencies of the IAEA and China's rich experience in the global development of nuclear energy and personnel training, the School's program contributes to supporting member states in building and managing nuclear energy programs and applying nuclear technologies for peaceful purposes. A total of 38 participants from 23 IAEA member countries attended the event.

The two-week event focused on current issues in the development of nuclear energy, key aspects of regulating nuclear energy programs worldwide within the IAEA's framework, personnel training, nuclear knowledge management, etc. Participants worked on group projects to apply the acquired knowledge, and the program concluded with a final exam. A distinctive feature of the event was the organized technical tours to facilities in the Chinese nuclear industry, including an operating nuclear power plant (Attachment 1 - School Program).
