The Secretariat of the Kazakhstan Pugwash Committee reports that, on 30–31 July 2026, the International Pugwash Movement held an expert workshop in Yerevan with the participation of 12 experts. The workshop focused on preparing a new multi-year project concerning the emerging European security order.

The new project will analyse how this order is taking shape and develop recommendations for establishing a non-confrontational and stable European security architecture following the end of hostilities between Russia and Ukraine.
This work is being undertaken against the backdrop of a broader weakening of the security system established after the end of the Cold War. The Pugwash publication identifies the abandonment of established arms-control mechanisms, the deterioration of relations between Russia and the West, disregard for international law and rules, and a broader shift towards a more fragmented and polycentric international system as the principal factors.
Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs reports that a full report on the outcomes of the workshop will be published at a later date.
