The PCK Secretariat informs that, in accordance with subparagraph 1.3 of Section I of the PCK Action Plan for 2026, a round table was held on 8 April 2026 at the Department of Biotechnology and Microbiology of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University. The event was dedicated to the organization of research work for master’s and doctoral students in the fields of biotechnology and biological safety, as well as to the development of international cooperation in their training.

The moderator of the event, which was held in a hybrid format, was PCK member, Associate Professor, Candidate of Biological Sciences Zh.K. Massalimov, Head of the Department of Biotechnology and Microbiology of L.N. Gumilyov ENU.
The round table was attended online by PCK member, PhD P.V. Tarlykov, Head of the Laboratory of Proteomics and Mass Spectrometry of the National Center for Biotechnology of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as by the teaching staff of the department, 23 master’s and doctoral students, and invited experts and well-known scientists: A.R. Kushugulova and S.S. Kozhakhmetov from National Laboratory Astana, Nazarbayev University, as well as M.K. Zhabagin and V.S. Kiyan from the National Center for Biotechnology of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The participants noted that, in the current environment, the training of highly qualified personnel in this field requires the consolidation of efforts not only of universities and research institutes, but also the active involvement of the international academic community as partners.
During the discussion, the current educational programs were analyzed, and the opinions of master’s and doctoral students were heard. The students noted the positive aspects of the program’s development and expressed the need to expand internship and practical training bases in the future.
Representatives of interested parties emphasized the importance of strengthening the practice-oriented approach, while experts noted the need for students to gain deeper knowledge of advanced methods in molecular biology, genomics, and bioinformatics analysis. Special emphasis was placed on the direct integration of dissertation research with the real needs of research institutes and the relevant sector of the economy.
Following the event, the participants agreed on the main areas for the development of educational programs in biotechnology and biological safety, focusing on strengthening practical training, integrating dissertation research with the needs of specialized research institutes, and expanding international partnerships.
