The International Pugwash Movement Took Part in the Moscow Nonproliferation Conference

The PCK Secretariat informs that the International Pugwash Movement took part in the Moscow Nonproliferation Conference, held on 12–14 March 2026 in Moscow, Russian Federation. According to information published on the website of the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs, Dr. Karen Hallberg, Secretary General of Pugwash, participated in the conference, and her address took place on 13 March 2026 during the first panel session of the conference.

In her address, the Secretary General of the Pugwash Movement noted that, amid growing international tensions, the modernization of nuclear arsenals, and the weakening of arms control mechanisms, diplomacy, scientific dialogue, confidence-building measures, and practical steps to reduce nuclear risks are becoming particularly important. Special attention was given to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, the prospects of the 2026 NPT Review Conference, the need to preserve the moratorium on nuclear testing, and the strengthening of the role of international institutions, including the IAEA.

The Pugwash Movement reaffirmed its readiness to contribute to the development of dialogue, the strengthening of bridges of trust, and the search for peaceful ways to resolve international disagreements.
