In Memory of Talgat Amangeldievich Musabayev (1951–2025)

We are deeply saddened to announce that on August 4, 2025, Talgat Amangeldievich Musabayev – People's Hero of Kazakhstan, Lieutenant General of Aviation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Doctor of Technical Sciences – passed away.

Talgat Amangeldievich Musabayev flew into space three times, spending a total of more than 341 days in orbit, including seven spacewalks.
In 2007, he headed the Aerospace Committee under the Ministry of Education and Science of Kazakhstan.
From 2007 to 2014, he served as Chairman of the National Space Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
From 2014 to 2016, he was Chairman of the Aerospace Committee under the Ministry of Investment and Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
From 2017 to 2023, he was a Senator in the Parliament of Kazakhstan and a member of the Committee on International Affairs, Defense and Security.
Since 2018, he had been a member of the Pugwash Committee of Kazakhstan under the Kazakh National Academy of Natural Sciences


Talgat Amangeldievich Musabayev received numerous national honors and awards, including the title of “Khalyk Kakharmany” (People’s Hero of Kazakhstan) and “Hero of the Russian Federation.” He was also awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples, the Austrian Order of the Silver Eagle, the Russian Order "For Merit to the Fatherland", the “Otan” Order, the “Order of Peter the Great”, NASA’s “Space Flight” Medal, and the Legion of Honour, the highest national award of France.

The leadership and members of the Pugwash Committee of Kazakhstan extend their sincere condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. His name will remain forever in the memory of all those who had the honor of working with him.
