The Secretariat of the Pugwash Committee of Kazakhstan, with reference to the press service of Kazakhstan Nuclear Power Plants LLP, reports that on December 12, 2023, a meeting of experts took place with the employees of NAC Kazatomprom on the issue of construction of nuclear power plants. The event was attended by the General Director of Kazakhstan Nuclear Power Plants LLP, member of the PCK Zhantikin T.M., Deputy Director of the Department of Nuclear Energy and Industry of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan G.D. Mursalova, Deputy General Director for Production of the INP Ermakov E. L.
About 200 employees of “NAC Kazatomprom” JSC took part in a meeting on the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan. The experts presented a detailed overview of the current state and prospects for the development of the nuclear industry in the country, and spoke about plans for the construction of a nuclear power plant in the Zhambyl district of the Almaty region.
General Director of KNPP, member of the PCK Zhantikin T.M. highlighted issues related to determining the location of the nuclear power plant, introduced the companies included in the short list of potential reactor suppliers, and spoke about the preliminary time frame for the implementation of the nuclear power plant construction project.
Representatives of the Ministry and the Institute of Nuclear Physics, in turn, spoke about the development of nuclear energy in the country and abroad, and also answered questions from the meeting participants. Particular attention was paid to the issues of ensuring the safety of nuclear power plants, personnel training and advanced technologies for the construction of nuclear power plants.
During the meeting, representatives of “NAC Kazatomprom” JSC emphasized the importance of ensuring the country’s energy safety and the development of nuclear energy.
