The secretariat of the Pugwash informs, that on May 27, 2023, at the age of 85, the former President of the Pugwash Movement (2007-2017), Deputy Secretary General of the UN for disarmament issues (1998-2003), Chairman of the Historical Review Conference on the Consideration of the Actions of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons in 1995, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka Jayantha Dhanapala (December 30, 1938 - May 27, 2023) passed away.
The Pugwash Committee of Kazakhstan at KazNANS sincerely sympathizes with the family and friends, and everyone who had the honor to know and work with Mr. Jayanta DHANAPALA as part of the 62nd Conference of the Pugwash Movement of Scientists in Astana in 2017.
